Beginner’s 3-Step Installation Guide
The installation of Clawdbot has been significantly simplified and is mainly divided into three steps.
Step 1: Prepare Hardware and Model
You need a device that can run 24/7 to serve as the “host” for Clawdbot. Recommended Hardware: Mac mini (M-series) or a low-power VPS. Model: Prepare a powerful LLM API Key, such as Anthropic’s Claude Opus.
Step 2: One-Click Core Program Installation
Open your Terminal and run the official one-click installation command. It will automatically handle dependencies and environment configurations.

Step 3: Run the Wizard and Connect IM
Once the installation is complete, run the onboarding wizard for configuration:
clawdbot onboard --install-daemon
The wizard will guide you through:
- Mode Selection: Choose local.
- Model Configuration: Enter your API Key.
- IM Connection: Telegram is recommended. You need to find @BotFather on Telegram to create a bot, then enter the provided Token into the wizard.
Once finished, your Clawdbot will run in the background, ready for your commands in Telegram at any time.

Clawdbot excels at handling multi-step, cross-application collaborative tasks. You can think of it as a 24/7 personal assistant.
- Office Automation: You only need to say, “Unsubscribe from all newsletters I received last week, then summarize Report.pdf into 3 bullet points and send it to me.” Clawdbot will automatically log into your email, execute unsubscribes, read files, summarize content, and send the final message.
- Development Assistant: You can ask it to “Run npm install in the new project directory and start the service. If it fails, send me the error message.” It will execute terminal commands, monitor processes, and report results.

Clawdbot is a cool tool, but it is currently “not ready for the general public.” Before using it, you need a clear understanding of the risks.
Risk 1: Cost Out of Control (Potential $100+/day)
Since it is an autonomous Agent, it doesn’t just call the model when you make a request; it can “decide to do something” on its own and run a massive series of API calls. Real-world case: Some users have incurred API bills of “hundreds of dollars” in a single day by running Clawdbot. Suggestion: It is essential to deploy cost-monitoring scripts and set API spending alerts.
Risk 2: Security and “Social Suicide” Risks
Clawdbot has the same system permissions as you do and has not undergone a rigorous security audit.
